October 19th
With a brisk WNW wind blowing we arrived at the Towers early but were disappointed by the lack of movement. In 90 minutes we saw 36 Dark-bellied Brent Geese, 5 Red-throated Divers, 35 Cormorants, 1 Mediterranean Gull, 7 Dunlin, 1 Lesser Black-backed Gull, 1 Rock Pipit and 3 Common Scoter W.
We then had a look at Reculver bushes and found 1 Redwing, 1 Firecrest, 4 Goldcrests, 1 Kingfisher and 3 Chiffchaffs.
Later at Shuart we saw 2 Grey Herons, 1 Goldcrest, 1 Kingfisher, 1 Sparrowhawk, 13 Lapwings, 6 Long-tailed Tits and 2 Ring-necked Parakeets.
We had another attempt at a seawatch at the Towers after lunch and it was even more slow than this morning. The only bird of note was a Shag (190th) feeding off the Towers. However after we had left Derek Smith saw 3 Great Skuas fly W and then back E as well as 1 or 2 Gannets.
After our seawatch Matt had a walk at Reculver and saw 1 Common Buzzard, 12 Redwings, 22 Grey Partridges, 11 Red-legged Partridges, 30 Corn Buntings, 40 Skylarks and 3 Stonechats.
The 2 Shorelarks and the Lapland Bunting have been seen today between Reculver and Coldharbour.
